Time for a 10 Minute Thursday Creation!

10minutecreations Graphic

Hi all! Time for another 10-minute Thursday creation and it’s me, Julie, who will be your hostess today! I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for anything that is close to the cash register, no matter where I am! I am sure those that do store marketing would LOVE to hear this — Yes, I am an impulse buyer. Recently, I picked up these note cards below at my local craft store for a bargain – 8 for a buck. The paper looked like watercolor paper, so immediately I thought — OH… what can I stamp and color inside that beautiful box with gold accents!

There’s more to this card-making story though. I recently got this thank you in the mail from a friend and I loved the gold accents here as well! I loved the almost watercolor washed look and I thought it would be a great inspiration for a quick and easy creation!

So, I started by masking off the box so that my stamped image could sit perfectly inside….

tut3

I stamped Flourishes Cherry Blossoms set inside with Versamark ink and embossed with gold detail embossing powder!

tut4

While my mask was still on, I decided to sponge on some Distress Ink in Spun Sugar to create the same look as my inspiration!

tut5

After I took off the mask, I realized that if I wanted a five minute card, I could stop here — in real life the pink ink adds just the right pop and the gold embossing is perfect all on its own!

tut6

But, I didn’t stop there…. I picked up just a few of my Aquamarkers to color this image up with. I used Cherry Blossom, Flamingo PinkBamboo, Sepia and the Aquamarker Blender Pen. I started by scribbling the markers on a palette and picking up the color and moving it around with the blender pen. I didn’t want a true watercolor look but more mod like my inspiration.

Here’s a close up so you can see how I literally scribbled on the color…

When I was done coloring, I decided while I liked the card, I thought it needed a little something extra, so I added a bit of gold cording.   So, here’s the finished card….

And here’s my card with my inspiration. Not the same but you can see how the card I received inspired my end creation!

There you have it, an easy peasy ten minute creation that can be done simply by dolling up a store bought card (or 8 of them in my case!) My husband laughed because it actually took longer to write this post than it did to make the card!

ONE NOTE: If you like the look of Aquamarkers and haven’t had a chance to try them yet, now is your chance to pick some up! All Aquamarkers are now on sale for a limited time at 20% off! It’s a great way to stock up on some nice water-based markers! Just click HERE to see the beautiful range of colors!
