Hi everyone! It’s Kim Teasdale here with my last post as a Limelight Designer for Flourishes. This week I have a card for you made with the Blossoms and Butterflies set. Because I’m not a gardener by any means, I’m not a 100% sure but I think the flowers are Clematis so I water coloured them deep purple to look like the ones that my parents had growing in their garden.
I picked the smaller image from the set so that I could create a window for it with some of my Spellbinders dies. I then was able to pop the die cuts up on some dimensionals to frame the flowers. This card is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and in order for it not to look top heavy with the Spellbinders frame, I added some deep purple satin ribbon with a vintage looking brad to balance out the card.
The flowers themselves were water coloured with tombow markers after I had applied some saffron and mustard inks around the flowers. This allowed me to get close enough to the flowers with the inks and my water brush without having my purples bleed into the background. I then added some sponging to the outer perimeter of the image to brighten it up with some mustard ink and added some chalk shadows to finish off the image.
I wanted to add even more dimension to the card so I stamped the butterfly twice, heat embossed them with clear detail embossing powder and then water coloured them using some reds, yellows and oranges. I then cut out the butterflies and glued them together along the body. I ended up bending the wings where they meet the body up on just the top layer of the butterfly and leaving the bottom layer flat so that it looks like the butterfly is still fluttering about in mid flight. I love the effect this has on a card and on the person’s face that pulls it out of the envelope!
Thank you so much for joining me in the Limelight this past month and be sure to swing by next Sunday and introduce yourself to the February Limelight Designer. Also a BIG thank you to Jan Marie and Julie for letting me be part of the Flourishes Team for January and for letting me play with some truly beautiful stamps
