Sweet Peas Project

Happy Mother’s Day!! What a great day to have my very first post at the Limelight Designer for Flourishes this month! I was so excited when Julie emailed and asked me to join you for the month. As I said in my bio last week, I have always admired the amazingly beautiful stamps from Flourishes, especially all the wonderful fruits and flowers!

Today I’d like to share 2 projects with you that I designed to work together or separately. It started with a project I took on for my church. Our church does several Sunday afternoon lunches a year for our church family. Each time we also box up approximately 35 of these lunches for delivery to area shut-ins. For several years now they have been taking a small “favor” with each delivered meal and they recently asked for someone to take over that project. I suggested that we make scripture ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) that could be kept in a small album. Since the first ATC was for Mother’s Day a floral theme seemed appropriate and the Sweet Pea set from Flourishes was perfect!!

Ever since I was young, I’ve loved Sweet Peas – we had them growing wild in our yard. These images are so beautifully done!! I used the smaller of the 2 sweet pea images to stamp on my ATC which I had printed with a verse. I colored it with Copic markers (see photo below for which Copics). I then cut away the top portion of the white so that you could see the pink embossed cardstock beneath it – it was an easy way to add layered interest without using patterned paper! After I whipped out 35 of these beauties I wanted to try out the larger sweet pea stamp.

So I pulled out a blank notebook I had been saving for quite a while. Since it had a spiral binding it was quite simple to take apart and add the patterned paper and cardstock to the front and back of the journal. I love that the pages inside match the colors and papers that I was going to use!

Next I stamped the large sweet pea image on Flourishes Classic White Cardstock and got coloring. I made my bouquet a mixture of different color sweet peas, all colors I remember seeing. This cardstock was so wonderful to work with – the colors blended beautifully! I die cut the image with the largest Nestabilities Labels Eight die as well as a piece of patterned paper. I then pieced the two together at the bottom and added some organdy ribbon. Very carefully (and here my sewing machine didn’t quite cooperate!) I sewed around the whole edge of the shape, just on the embossed line. I layered this on a piece of pale pink paper that had been embossed with the same folder I used on the ATC.

I stamped the sweet sentiment on white cardstock and then the sweet pea image over it using light pink ink. This was die cut and added to a scalloped coordinating diecut. Lastly, I added a few small pink pearls above the sentiment for some romance! :)

All that was left to do was add a bit of gorgeous Sheer Pink ribbon around the cover with a nice fluffy bow! I think it would be neat to give this with the ATC, which could be used as a bookmark! I’m so excited to give this notebook away – I know just the perfect person!

Thanks for bearing with me and my long post – I promise I won’t be as long-winded next week! hee hee! Here’s one final pic for you, this is all the copics that I used for my sweet peas. I hope you all enjoy your day!!
